Children Paint the Masters: OTA 2014 Spring Gala Art Auction Projects!

Kindergarten Art:  Science Meets Art Wall Hanging

Kindergarten students each brought in 2 objects, one living and another non-living, to be examined and photographed with a digital microscope. They discovered that beauty ‘is more than skin deep’- it even goes beyond the microscopic! Images were then printed and organized into a Mathematical/ Modish arrangement to produce this stunning, ultra hip, montage. Yours- if the price is right! Paper mounted on wood panel (24”x 36”)

First Grade Art: Black & White Line Design Mirror

1st Grade – Black and White Line Design – Mirror:  Zigzag, curved, wavy, spiraled- OTA 1st Graders explored the many variations of “line” with this stunning “Black and white” mirror. Warning: you may become so entranced by the breathtaking geometry that you might forget to look into the mirror! Mixed media.

Second Grade Art: Botanical Impression Clay Tile Console Table

2nd Grade – Botanical Impression Clay Tile – Console Table:  OTA second graders relished the opportunity to work with clay. Local Ceramic Artist Norm Lurie shared his knowledge, talents and skills when assisting the students with their clay creations. Second graders selected and arranged their botanical specimens into clay to create the tiles that made this elegant and sophisticated Piece. Wood and ceramic tile.

Third Grade Art: S3G Mosaic Butterfly Birdbath Spectacular

Beautiful butterflies adorn this charming birdbath- a must have for any blue ribbon worthy garden! 3rd graders worked in groups, designing in colored glass, from images of real butterflies, to create this breathtaking mosaic. Songbirds will come in droves to bath in this amazing oeuvre of community art. Mixed media

Fourth Grade Art: Mandala Inspired Fused Glass Serving Platter & 8 Appetizer Plates

Hindu and Buddhist symbolism featured in Mandalas were the inspiration for OTA’s 4th Grade. Students worked together in small groups, designing Mandalas. They selected, cut, and embellished clear glass disks, which were then fired and fused to produce this stunning assortment of 8 plates and platter. Contem-plate the Universe whenever you dine!

Fifth Grade Art: Henri Rousseu’s Tiger in a Tropical Storm– OTA Style!

Core Knowledge™ 5th Grade curriculum includes the study of Henri Rousseau’s “Surprise” or “Tiger in a Tropical Storm”. OTA 5th graders were able to re-create this masterpiece in their own medium of glasstile. This magnificent mosaic table will add tropical elegance to any space.

Sixth Grade Art: San Diego Skyline Pen & Ink Landscape (Triptych)

OTA 6th graders worked in pen and ink to create three whimsical “doodle art” paintings of the San Diego skyline. These vibrant images depict the City in Motion using hundreds of small drawings combined to produce a single unified portrait of land and sea. Beautifully displayed in 3 frames this creative work will make a big splash on whatever wall they adorn.

Seventh Grade Art: Marc Chagall’s I and the Village Fused Glass Panel- OTA Style!

Working with stained glass, OTA’s 7th Grade class adapted Marc Chagall’s I and the Village to create this stunning fused glass window. Each student cut glass to shape- embellished and painted- to recreate this surreal masterwork. The result of their efforts is this symbolic and mind-bending, collaborative piece.

Eighth Grade Art: Art Meets Science– OTA Project Tree

As the 8th grade class prepares for High School they wanted to leave a monument to mark their years at OTA. How better to commemorate and embody the spirit of Old Town Academy then a monumental sculpture? Matter-Energy-Life on Earth are all represented on this mosaic, metal and fused glass sculpture. This Amazing work would make any lawn, patio, school courtyard (hint hint) resplendent!
